Free Your mind and the rest will follow

"Free your mind and the rest will follow", I can’t get it out of my head!

Ironic Hey!!!?

Free your mind and the rest will follow.

Love the saying, then thought let me hear that song again.

And I listened to the lyrics and WOW!!!

Full disclosure, I am on a little "En Vogue" high. LOL!

So, “Before you see me you got to know how to read me.”

Isn’t that the truth?

What I have learned is the importance of being seen and being heard.

The more we internalize what we are struggling with, the more layers we will build.

Is it possible when things are piling up that we can be vulnerable enough to share?

What’s holding you back?

I know what holds me back...

And that is the thought that someone will criticize, ridicule, or dismiss how I am feeling.

That is the reality I face, and rather than not sharing it at all, finding the right people to express myself to, to expel what I am sitting with is part of freeing my mind.

I love this song!

The judgement and the power that is being taken back by the artist pumps me up!!!

Please, tell me how this song speaks to you?

Lyrics

(Prejudice, wrote a song about it)

(Like to hear it? Here it go!)

Free your mind

I wear tight clothing, high-heeled shoes

It doesn't mean that I'm a prostitute no, no

I like rap music, wear hip-hop clothes

That doesn't mean that I'm out sellin' dope, no, no, no

Oh my, forgive me for having straight hair, no

It doesn't mean there's another blood in my heir, yeah, yeah

I might date another race or colour

It doesn't mean I don't like my strong black brothers

(Ooh da-da, ooh da-da, ooh da-da, ooh da-da)

Why, oh why must it be this way?

(Oh, oh, oh, oh)

Before you can read me

You got to learn how to see me

I said

Free your mind

And the rest will follow

Be colour-blind

Don't be so shallow

Free your mind

And the rest will follow

Be colour-blind

Don't be so shallow

So I'm a sista

Buy things with cash

That really doesn't mean that all my credit's bad

Oh

So why dispute me and waste my time?

Because you really think the price is high for me

I can't look without being watched, no

You rang my buy before I made up my mind

Oww

Oh, now attitude

Why even bother?

I can't change your mind

You can't change my colour

(Ooh da-da, ooh da-da, ooh da-da, ooh da-da)

Why, oh why must it be this way?

(Oh, oh, oh, oh)

Before you can read me

You got to learn how to see me

I said

Free your mind

And the rest will follow

Be colour-blind

Don't be so shallow

Free your mind

And the rest will follow

Be colour-blind

Don't be so shallow

Free your mind

And the rest will follow

Be colour-blind

Don't be so shallow

Free your mind

And the rest will follow

Be colour-blind

Don't be so shallow

Free your mind

(Ooh da-da, ooh da-da, ooh da-da, ooh da-da)

Why, oh, why must it be this way?

Before you can read me

You got to learn how to see me

I said

Free your mind, and the rest will follow

Be colour-blind, don't be so shallow

Free your mind, and the rest will follow

Be colour-blind, don't be so shallow

Free your mind, and the rest will follow

Be colour-blind, don't be so shallow

Free your mind, and the rest will follow

Be colour-blind, don't be so shallow

Free your mind
